Location:
  • Kenya's absolute location 1 degree north and 40 degrees east.
  • Kenya runs along the equator in eastern Africa, Kenya is in both the northern and southern hemisphere. Kenya lies next to Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, and Sudan the Indian Ocean also
borders the east of Kenya.
Place- Physical Characteristics:
  • Area within the continent- Kenya is in east Africa and it lies along the coast next to the Indian ocean.
  • Physical Geography- Mount Kenya is 17,057 feet tall and Kenya is home of the Great Rift Valley. Two of Africas great lakes are located in Kenya, Lake Turkana, and Lake Victoria.
  • Climate- Kenya gets about 40 inches of rain each year, and the average temperature each year is 80 degrees f. ( 27 degrees c.)
Place- Human Characteristics:
  • The government that Kenya has is republic.
  • The main language/languages of Kenya is Swahili and English.
  • Ethic/racial groups of Kenya include the Kikuyu, Luhya ,Luo ,Kamba,Kisii, Meru, Kalenjin tribes.
  • Most of the population of Kenya lives in the southwest part of Africa.
  • The currency of Kenya is Kenyan shilling, 1 Kenyan shilling equils 0.01 US dollars.
  • The population of Kenya is 34.7 million it is diverse 2.6. % annually.
  • Kenya's most common meats are beef, lamb, goat, chicken and fish. They also enjoy milk, ugali ( a stiff dough made out of cornmeal, millet, sorghum, or cassava.), uji ( porridge), red bean stew, githeri ( corn and beans , and chapati are common staple foods. Common fruits include pineapple, mango, bananas, and papaya as well as avocado, sweet potatoes, and cassava.
Human environment Interaction:
Humans adapting to the environment-
  • Light fabrics are used for clothing, western style clothes.
  • The sambura national park reserves is one of many large nature reserved in Kenya.
Humans changing the environment-
  • After gaining independence from England they've had economic issues,
  • Light fabrics and shorts sleeves are common because of the warm climate, but only young children and older men wear shorts.
Environmental problems due to people changing the environment-
  • Water pollution from urban and industreal waste.
  • Many people pouch the animals in Kenya.
Movement:
Transportation-
  • Kenya has good international and domestic air links.
  • Nairobi's airport is one of the most important airport in east Africa, because it offers regional, domestic, and international flights.

Information and Idea movement-
  • Most Kenyans listen to to radio broadcasts in Kiswhali, and English.
  • Some people wear western style clothing and second hand clothing from Europe and North America.
  • Music in the cites of Kenya are heavily influnced by western imports, particually gospel, as well as Congolese lingala music.
